The Municipal Government Act in Alberta details how municipalities operate and establishes the foundations for land use policies which eventually create the communities we live in. These plans are statutory meaning that the documents are required to align with higher order municipal and regional plans.
An Area Structure Plan or ASP provides a framework for the development of a specific area within a municipality. The resulting policy document must outline the proposed land uses, population density and provision of utilities and transportation access, as well as, the sequence of development.
All statutory plans must be adopted by bylaw and require a public hearing to allow community members and others affected by the plan to express their thoughts.
Following our community open house the Heritage Crossing ASP will be submitted to Foothills County for consideration. A public hearing will be held and if Council approves the plan it will be submitted to the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board for review.
